The Symbolic Meaning of "Protection Wings"
Protection Wings was created by Wendy Kathleen in the spirit of
helping bring comfort, raise awareness & money to find a cure
for various diseases and afflictions. Each image is uniquely
inspired by real life individuals who have experienced these.
A portion of the profits will be donated to the charities.
The Meaning Behind "Awareness Ribbons"
The meaning behind the awareness ribbon
depends on its color. Many groups have adopted ribbons as
symbols of support or awareness, and as a result, many causes
often share each color.
About "The Protector"
The Protector from
Breast Cancer was
inspired by the artist dear friend and godmother to her son,
Joanne Bearchell. She is a survivor of this disease and is in
inspiration to all those she knows.
The Protector from
Heart Disease was inspired by the artist
father, Gerald Brown, who suffers from Heart Disease. He is the
rock in her life.
The Protector from
Juvenile Diabetes was inspired by the artist
neighbor, Michaela, who currently suffers from Diabetes. It was
little Michaela who first inspired the idea for the Protection
Angels and Faeries series when she asked the artist if she would
paint a Diabetic faerie for her room.
The Protection from
SIDS is dedicated to ALL mothers, who
nightly watch and pray over their sleeping baby.
The Protector from
Melanoma was inspired by two individuals. The
first is the artist Grandfather Ernest Witmond, who has been in
remission for nearly 30 years and is celebrating his 90th
birthday. The second is Denise Maffei, who has been the artist's
manicurist for over 10 years. Denise has become a dear friend
over the years to the artist and has remained in remission for
nearly 20 years.
While the person who inspired The Protection Wings against
Bi-Polar/Mental Disorder wishes to remain anonymous, she did
wish people to understand it better. At least one person of
every one hundred suffers from bipolar disorder. The illness
typically begins in the late teens or early twenties with men
most likely to first have an episode of mania, and women more
likely to first experience a depressive phase. Bipolar disorder
is a serious disorder of the brain, with abnormalities in the
brain chemistry causing extreme shifts in mood, energy and
functioning.
The Protector from
Eating Disorders was inspired by the artist
herself who suffered for 15 years from anorexia and bulimia.
Today, Wendy Kathleen works toward educating the next generation
of young woman about the dangers of this deadly disease.
The Protection from
Autism was inspired by one of the artist’s
patrons who asked to have a special painting done to be
auctioned off to raise money for Autism research.
