a touch of bohemian, a dash of fairy and a slight shade of gloom and
what do you get? Wendy Kathleen McElfish. Nestled in the fast paced
world of the O.C. California, Wendy has carved out a fairytale existence
for her two elfin fairy boys, husband and two puppy dogs. It is here at
her studio that she gleams inspiration from the fairy neighborhood
children that gather around her home and garden.
From her earliest memories Wendy was drawn into the world of art and
fairytales, gathering her skills and inspiration from her mother’s
drawings and stories. Her mother would patiently guide and encourage
Wendy’s work, while inspiring her imagination with stories. It was also
her mothers love of ice skating that first lead Wendy onto the ice.
What started as afternoon group ice skating lessons soon grew into
private lessons, early morning practices and competitions. As with so
many young skaters around the world, Wendy dreamed of going for the
Gold. For nine years, Wendy dedicated her life to the sport of figure
skating. Her dream was cut short at 15, when she became sick and was
unable to train at the level she had.
It was at this time that she discovered a new love. Art began to fill
the hole that skating had left. With as much passion as she had shown
for skating, she began to illustrate through a paint brush. During high
school, Wendy’s love and passion for art grew and took root. Her
university years, Wendy refined and expanded her skills through art
classes and her own studies. She receive a B.A. in English and M.A. in
Education from Pepperdine University.
The birth of her son brought about a renewed connection to the unseen
spiritual world and love for the purity of all things innocent. The
McElfish baby boys have become the muse for which Wendy Kathleen
channels her paintbrush and creates. Wendy Kathleen now wishes to share
this joy of innocence and enchantment with the world through her art
works. “Painting for me is a very spiritual experience. It is like
